McClain won gold in the all-around and on vault, her favourite apparatus, at the 2019 City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. She also won bronze on the bars and the floor exercise. McClain was chosen to compete in the 2020 Gymnix International in Montreal, Canada, the following March. There, she won gold in every event, secured silver in the all-around, and helped her team win the competition.
Just a few months before competing in her first senior international competition at the 2021 World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan, McClain moved to WOGA Gymnastics in Plano, Texas, last summer. The event has stuck with her and continues to inspire her.
